Perkins: Yes there was some issues during the event. It was a first for everyone involved though, and we all learned a few key lessons which will be applied to any future events to avoid this occurring. We also saw that the crowd coming in was larger than expected, and this "luxury problem" meant we got into some issues.
We also saw there was some confusion due to music rights. As the rights for the music was only cleared in North America, it could only be seen by those players. This was confusing to many as they didn't understand how the game "knew" (we use geo-targeting on the ads) where they were from, and then they reacted when they couldn't see it, even though they weren't supposed to.
There are some lessons learned in this, but I think it is great that we today have the technology to pull this kind of stuff off. With the lessons learned implemented we are aiming to redo the event, and will give more information through the official www.anarchy-online.com website
1UP: Some folks in the forums who did see bits of footage were also suggesting that the event was not actually live, but taped and then streamed into the game. Can you confirm this?
Perkins: I can confirm this yes, for now the technology to do it live just isn't there. We'd love to do live at some point though, and am certain we will some day. The potential for the evolution of this potential IS staggering, not only in terms of music, but for other media too. Bringing all sorts of entertainment into a virtual world is a fantastic concept and one we're proud to be a big part of. We're very lucky that Anarchy Online has such a great player base that is open to so many firsts and thank them infinitely for their patience and loyalty. At the same time I hope they are having fun and having good experience with our game, and that they will join us for the ride in the years to come as well.
1UP: Thanks for joining us, Terri!
